Panasonic chases 10% of digital stills market

February 15th, 2006 · No Comments

At its European Digital network seminar, held recently in Lisbon, Panasonic vowed to obtain 10% of the global digital camera market. The brand has expanded its range of Lumix cameras and introduced new battery technology which extends the shooting life of its products (limited battery capacity was an early criticism of its range) – as many as 240 shots on a single charge.
There was no announcement of a move into the digital SLR market – the brand is holding back this until the PMA show which opens on Feb 26, in Orlando. There it will announce a digital SLR iniative with Olympus, which will see the two companies co-operating on a shared standard for lens mounts and accessories. The first range of Panasonic branded digital SLRs will incorporate a variety of proprietary technology, such as its Mega Optical Image Stabiliser and Venus engine image enhancements. Models will retail for more than £600.
