According to US analyst DisplaySearch, Panasonic has consolidated its position as the world’s number one plasma TV brand. It’s latest rankings has Panasonic at the top of the sales charts in Japan, North America and China. In Europe though, it sits below Philips. For the final quarter of 2005, Displaysearch ranks Panny ahead of LG (15.4 percent share) second, Samsung (13.7 percent) third, Philips (13.3 percent) fourth and Hitachi (7.3 percent) fifth. Worldwide plasma TV shipments rose 44 percent quarter to quarter and 109 percent year to year in the fourth quarter of 2005 to reach a record 2.27 million units, the firm said. According to the latest market research, plasma has lost market share in the 40/45inch screen sizes to both LCD and microdisplay projection screens, although this may well be down to demand outstripping supply.
