Samung reveals 82 inch LCD with LED backlight

At the CeBit show, running in Hannover, Germany, Korean giant Samsung has unveiled an 82 inch which utilizes an LED backlight – making it the world’s largest of its kind. By opting for an LED backlight, Samsung has been able to increase the colour gamut (range) of the giant screen by more than 33 percent. Proprietary Dynamic Contrast technology, allows for a claimed contrast ratio of 7000:1. Another benefit of the LED backlight is less heat, which means no cooling fan is needed. The product is a technology statement and is not intended for general sale. “Samsung’s LCD leadership goes beyond our ability to offer the world’s largest display panels  “ we constantly strive to improve every aspect of the home entertainment experience,” said Sang-heung Shin, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Division of Samsung. “This advanced LCD technology with LED backlight improves both the viewing angle and color reproduction area, while simultaneously decreasing thickness and power usage. These innovations will help Samsung to strengthen its position as a leader in digital TVs.” Also launched by the brand at CeBit is the HT-XQ100 DVD/receiver home entertainment system. The system incorporates USB Host Plug & Play support, and comes in piano black or pearl white. It has compatibility with various multimedia files, including DivX, MP3, DVD Audio, WMA, CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW and jpegs
