Universal offers King Kong as legal movie download

March 24th, 2006 · No Comments

Universal Pictures is to offer legal downloads of the blockbuster movie . In what is a seen as a ground-breaking move in the battle against illegal peer-to-peer networks, the Hollywood major has partnered with Lovefilm.com, the online DVD rental service, and AOL to offer buyers a three-in-one package. For £20, consumers will be able to download two digital versions of the picture, for playback on both PCs and portable devices, as well as being sent a standard DVD edition in the post.
Peter Smith, President of Universal Pictures International, denied that the cost of the package was too high. “You have got to look at the success of iTunes. Most people want to work within the law.”
