Sharp is parking its Aquos manufacturing juggernaut in Poland. The company has confirmed that it is negotiating with the government of the Republic of Poland to construct a 44 million Euro manufacturing facility. LCD modules will be produced in the city of Torun in Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship in the north-central part of Poland. The Japanese giant hopes to begin production in January 2007; components will ship to the company’s plants at Sharp Electrónica España S.A.(SEES) in Spain and Loewe Opta GmbH in Germany, for European consumers.
Sharp chief executive Katsuhiko Machida has been quoted as saying that the Corporation could spend as much as $181 million on the facility by 2010.
The news comes on top of an increase in production in its Japanese Kameyama plant, which is now fabricating 60,000 substrates a month following an investment of $130 million.
