High-tech toilets stir environmental concerns : The Daily Yomiuri

One of the great pleasures awaiting western visitors to are the country’s technically advanced toilets. But is the Japanese super loo an endangered species? Once the butt (ahem) of jokes, the average super loo comes with heated seat, water fountain and blow dryer, but as this story from The Daily Yomiuri (click on the link above) reveals, environmental concerns could spell their demise. High-tech J-loos rank sixth in the average power consumption chart for the Japanese home and can flush away more than eights liters of water per dump. On an increasingly green planet, can such indulgences ever be justified?
Well, frankly, yes. Some things are just worth paying a price for. The campaign to save this cultural phenomenon begins here. Anyone know of any UK importers?
