Nintendo leaks more Wii

May 1st, 2006 · No Comments

Nintendo’s official explanation for its next-gen console name, which has caused such controversy across the internet (but has been a boon for headline writers), is typically peppered with marketing hoodoo: “Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else…Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak…it’s really not about you or me. It’s about Wii.”
But amid the fluff, the corporation has confirmed some interesting detail prior to the console’s debut at the upcoming E3 expo.
The unit will have an SD memory card expansion bay, which will allow users to bolster the 512 megabytes of internal flash memory. The Wii will also sport a dual-format disc drive, which will play both 12-centimeter optical discs for the new system as well as legacy GameCube discs. However, a bolt-on peripheral will be required to allow DVD playback.
Nintendo apparently hasn’t chosen which colour schemes the vertical or horizontal unit will be available in yet, but it has confirmedthat all will come with a swish silver stand (pictured above).
Ninty also says that it will support inventive indie-developed games as well as big-budget “masterpiece” games, via a “dynamic development architecture.”
