No Blu-ray for Pioneer

May 9th, 2006 · No Comments

AV zombie can reveal that Pioneer will not introduce a Blu-ray player into Europe this year. Unlike fellow BD supporters Panasonic, Sony and Samsung, the Corporation has decided to sit out the first round of HD disc squabbles.
Says Jim Catcheside, the brand’s UK product guru, “It’s true, we won’t be bringing our first US player to the UK. We will wait until a second generation deck becomes available.”
This is probably no bad thing. The American BDP-HD1 has the dubious distinction of being the most expensive Blu-ray player announced to date. At 1800 US Dollars it invites flagship comparisons, but elements of the spec look decidedly unfinished, for example, it’s lack of support for Dolby True HD high-resolution audio.
