NBC and CBS announce new tellyweb channels

Confirming the evolution of the internet into genuine TV broadcast platform, major US TV net NBC Universal is to launch two tellyweb channels this Summer with original content.
Attractions on its DotComedy.com will include 30 webisodes of the hit US version of The Office, plus re-runs of The Tonight Show (host is pictured above on the set of the TV show Battlebots) and . Sibling channel FirstLook.com will be used to promote new shows coming to broadcast TV, as well as net only series like web soap The Cove, which will be broadcast in two, five-minute webisodes per week.
Says Jeff Zucker, CEO of the NBC Universal Television Group, “Television has the ability to connect with viewers and have an impact like no other medium, but now we’re seeing the power of the web to capture those viewers and extend the television experience.” The announcement comes after CBS trumpeted a rival internetwork called Innertube designed to cross-promote its most popular teen TV shows and introduce new content alongside archive material.
