US retailers grow impatient for new HD DVD player supplies

May 22nd, 2006 · No Comments

Patience is wearing thin at retail level in the US, as a second wave of Toshiba HD A1 players fail to materialize. In most outlets, the player has completely sold out, leading to a brisk business on ebay. The higher end HD-XA1 model is now more readily available.
Quite how long Toshiba can afford to dribble out deliveries remains to be seen, particularly as the launch of the first Blu-ray machines nears.
HD DVD movie titles continue to amble out. The Oscar-nominated thriller The Fugitive and Mel Brooks’ comedy classic Blazing Saddles will debut on HD DVD May 23 from Warner. Bonus materials mimic what has already been available on DVD.
