Samsung unveils first flash memory laptop PCs

May 23rd, 2006 · No Comments

Samsung has said that it will be the first company in the world to introduce flash memory-driven computers. Two solid-state drive () laptops are expected to go on sale in June, just before a similar product from Sony.
The revolutionary models utilize a 32-gigabyte flash memory instead of a hard drive, able to read data three times faster than a conventional HDD and write 1.5 times faster.
Others benefits are reduced power and noise. The introduction is widely seen as a thunder-stealer by the Korean giant, which is increasingly eager to outpoint rival Sony. More technology statement than mainstream product, these SSD pioneers will command a one million Won price premium over comparable conventional products. First generation models will only be available in South Korea
