Pioneer and Sony delay US Blu-ray player launch

June 8th, 2006 · No Comments

Pioneer has bumped its player launch in the US until at least September. The Corporation has already confirmed that its BDP-HD1 will not be coming to the UK. The news really shouldn’t surprise. The unit was shown at the last CES and blessed with a 1,500 dollar price ticket – despite apparently missing key features.
Pioneer says that the delay will enable it to test the player with upcoming BD media, to ensure full compatibility and BD Java interactivity.
Sony has also adjusted the on-sale date of its player debut, the BDP-S1. The model is now due August 15. The first Blu-ray movies are reportedly still shipping June 20, led by the Will Smith smirker Hitch. Significantly, that makes Sony’s first BD device a VIAO laptop, expected to street at 3,500 dollars.
