Nintendo DS plays up digital TV upgrade

Nintendo Prez Satoru Iwata has confirmed that owners will soon be able to watch digital TV on their handheld games machine. Nintendo will introduce a plug-in card with an antenna able to receive Japan’s One-Seg digital TV service in the autumn. Currently One-Segment broadcasting is received by mobile phones and dedicated portable devices.
Ninty has boosted monthly DS production to around 2 million units. Total sales of the handheld are in excess of 8.43 million, since its launch 18 months ago.
Satoru also took a snipe at Sony and Microsoft, both of whom have confirmed that they will take significant losses with the launch of their next generation games machines. “We do not expect to make a significant loss with the launch of the Wii,” he said. Game on…
