Pioneer ramps up plasma TV production

June 9th, 2006 · No Comments

Pioneer will increase its output of screens in anticipation of an upsurge in demand ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic games. The company says it will invest 20 billion yen in a new production line at its existing Japanese facility. The upgrade, which should add another 300,000 screens to its inventory annually, is expected to begin next spring.
Pioneer has denied rumours that its is looking to partner with Matsushita (parent of Panasonic) to produce DVD products, but confirms that it will concentrate its business on producing high-end displays for the discerning buyer. Its first 1080p monitor is now available in the UK.
