Panasonic closes its German DVD recorder operation

June 11th, 2006 · No Comments

Matsushita Electric Industrial (parent of Panasonic) is closing its long-standing AVC Networks operation in Germany, at the end of March 2007, as part of a global restructuring plan. The factory, which was once the source of Panasonic VCRs, currently produces DVD recorders for the European market.
According to the Japanese giant, “ever-intensifying global competition and severe price declines” have made the facility uncompetitive. The brand says it will return product development to Japan, and shift European manufacturing to Panasonic AVC Networks Slovakia.
