Concept subwoofer rewrites rule book

June 17th, 2006 · No Comments

Most of us are familiar with concept cars, but it’s not often you get to see concept . But that hasn’t stopped Crystal Audio from creating quite a stir with its bizarre Ballard subwoofer (pictured below) design.
Looking more musical instrument than room-shaker, the wooden device stands eight-foot tall and is constructed from wax-treated plywood. Inside the cone is a 30.5cm long-throw driver, driven by a 200w amp. While the model isn’t going into production (shame!), the company says the unusual end-pin and tilt design will manifest itself in a commercial subwoofer product at some point.
