LCD to rule world by 2009

June 18th, 2006 · No Comments

According to Market Intelligence operation iSuppli, will have replaced CRT as the most popular display device in the world by 2009.
The company predicts that in 2006, worldwide shipments of LCD TVs will rise by 74 percent to 46.7 million units. If current trends continue, LCDs will account for 48 percent of TVs shipped in 2009.
By 2010, LCDs will account for 56 percent of all TVs sold worldwide.
By comparison larger screen displays will only account for 7 percent of the market. Pressure on prices will also continue, as competition gets stronger and manufacturing processes become more economic.
One reason why prices are falling is that ever larger sheets of glass are being produced; the bigger the mother glass, the more TV screens can be cut from it.
The world’s biggest supplier of LCD panels is currently LG.Philips, closely followed by Samsung and Chi Mei.
In the final quarter of 2007, South Korea produced 44.8 percent of the global LCD market. Taiwan chased hard though, producing 40.1 percent.
