According to research by the Consumer Electronics Association, more than half (54 percent) of online adults intend to buy an iPod or other portable entertainment device over the next year.
“There is a growing expectation among consumers to have access to their digital content wherever they are, be it music, pictures, or video,” says Steve Koenig, the CEA’s senior manager of industry analysis. “Digital media players that can house entire libraries of digital audio and video content have remained a niche market until now. Results of this study indicate that this trend is gaining critical mass.”
Unsurprisngly, the most popular activity for portable entertainment devices is listening to music (a resounding 94 percent), but with a growing capability to play video, interest in portal video is expected to boom.
According to the study, less than half of online portable media device owners currently source content from online stores. Howver, seventy-one percent of online portable digital media device owners plan to purchase entertainment content that can be played back on their device.
