LCD projection group advocates new colour measurement

June 23rd, 2006 · No Comments

The group, headed up by Epson, used the recent InfoComm EXPO to announce a new criteria for assessing projector picture quality: Color Luminance.
To measure Color Luminance, the brightness of three primary colors (red, green and blue) are measured in nine fields, three of each color. The lumen measurements are added up and then averaged to determine the Color Luminance rating.
The 3LCD group advocates that colour luminance be added to standard specification data such as contrast and ANSI Brightness. It says this is necessary because the same colour image projected from two projectors can appear different, even if the ANSI lumen ratings and contrast are the same. No news yet on the projection industry’s acceptance of the concept.
