Music downloads a big hit for record industry

July 13th, 2006 · No Comments

According to Nielsen SoundScan, the industry body which tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada, the US music industry is now making enough money from online music to compensate for what it is losing through slowdowns in compact disc sales.
While CD packaged media slumped by 4.2 percent during the first half of 2006, download sales soared by 126 percent. The news should be sweet music to the ears of record company bigwigs. Download cash still comprises a mere 5.5 percent of all album revenues.
