When Korea’s biggest brand looks at the emblem on the chest of the world’s most famous superhero it sees not Superman, but Samsung.
In what is the biggest product placement deal struck by any consumer electronics company, a total of 274 Samsung products are being promoted within and alongside the new Superman Returns movie. The company reputedly paid 187,000 US dollars for the privilege.
The last time Samsung struck such a large-scale product placement deal was for The Matrix Reloaded, but the use of the brand was far less overt in the film itself.
This time around the film-makers unapologetically pepper the entire movie with Samsung products and logos.
Shame LG didn’t get a chance to sponsor Lex Luthor. Now that might have been fun…
