Disney has announced its opening Blu-ray movie slate. Debuting on September 19, at a suggest price of 35 dollars, will be the Dinosaur, Eight Below, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and The Great Raid. Both Dinosaur and Eight Below will come with so-called Blu-Scape high-definition short films inspired by the movies.
Following on October 17 will be Glory Road, Haunted Mansion, Gone in Sixty Seconds, again with Blu-Scape shorts. Concluding the release are Dark Water and The Brothers Grimm, which will have no extras.
Buena Vista Home Entertainment president Bob Chapek promised that the discs will be a “major technological breakthrough” adding, “the possibilities are endless, we’ve just begun to bridge the future of this exciting new paradigm.”
Concludes Chapek: “These are incredibly exciting times since we are in an era where the consumer has growing control over the delivery of their entertainment choices, including packaged media. We are confident that the Blu-ray Disc will be the high-definition choice for the home entertainment future.”
Growing control over our entertainment choices? Surely some mistake there…
