Korea invests millions to recreate dead actors

July 21st, 2006 · No Comments

The South Korean Government is investing upwards of 15 million US dollars into a CGI research and development project that could see the likeness of dead actors return to the big screen. According to Science and Technology Minister Kim Woo-sik, the digital actor initiative would give the country a world wide lead in the technology.
“Life-like digital versions of late actors or historical figures will be restored on the film screen. Thanks to our technological edge in computer graphics we have confirmed the project is viable. The prospects are pretty bright.”
One early use for the technology would be to create virtual stunt doubles that are indistinguishable from the real thing, although Woo-sik doesn’t rule out creating a feature film with a digital human lead actor.
