HD dominates Korean IPTV service

July 25th, 2006 · No Comments

A telecoms operator in South Korea, Hanaro Telecom, has made 22,000 high-definition videos available to 12 million homes via broadband, as part of its new HanaTV IPTV service.
Subscribers can watch dramas, films and news via their broadband connection. Chief executive Park Byung-moo says that it would take several years to watch all the material available. Hanaro charges a monthly subscription 11,800 won, but provides the HD box free of charge to its users.
The company says that it hops to get 250,000 subscribers this year, increasing to 1 million in 2007.
