Sony saves the planet

July 25th, 2006 · No Comments

Sony has promised to cut CO2 emissions from both its manufacturing operations worldwide and its product range, as part of a deal struck with the World Wildlife Fund.
The Corporation has joined the conservation organisation’s Climate Savers Programme, saying that it will reduce its absolute CO2 emissions seven per cent by 2010.
The company also plans on increasing the energy efficiency in all its production facilities, switching fuel from oil to renewable energy sources and to natural gas.
Sony will also replace some strong greenhouse gases used in specific production systems with more climate-friendly options.
“Sony is the first Japanese consumer electronics company to take corporate responsibility this far,” praised Jennifer Morgan, Director of the WWF International’s Climate Change Programme.
