July 26th, 2006 · No Comments

BT has inked a major content deal with Universal Pictures and NBC for its BT Vision download store, launching July 31, and its upcoming BT Vision service.
The agreement will make NBC Universal content available for both purchase (via download-to-own) or rental (via video-on-demand); a total of 150 Universal titles will be made available on the same date as their UK DVD release.
Those consumers that wish to purchase content for “permanent ownership” will be able to download two digital files to a PC and a portable device. They will also be sent a bare-bones DVD in the post.
Peter Smith, President of Universal Pictures International, says “As leaders in digital delivery, Universal Pictures UK is delighted to have partnered with BT in this unprecedented digital deal. We are excited that the UK consumer can look forward to even more choice and flexibility in accessing a wide range of NBC Universal content.”
Dan Marks, CEO for BT Vision, adds, “This is a very exciting deal that breaks new ground in the entertainment industry. Customers increasingly expect to enjoy entertainment when, where and how they want it and this agreement will help to make that possible.”
