Samsung has reported that some of the blame for its disappointing second quarter financials can be laid at the door of a technical hitch which reduced the yield of its plasma production lines.
Volumes, however, continue to grow. According to a statement from Samsung SDI president and chief executive Kim Soon-Taek, his plasma production facility produced 560,000 panels in the second quarter, up 1.8 percent year-on-year. This puts the Corporation in a good position to benefit from a projected increase in plasma demand, up to 6.3 million units in the second half of 2006. The Korean giant says it will spend 6.2 trillion won through 2010, on PDP and, increasingly, OLED panels.
