Xbox team go to war alongside Zune

Microsoft music player to take on Apple’s iPod

Micosoft’s much publicised offensive against the Apple is going to be an uphill struggle, says Michael Gartenberg, research director at Jupiter Research. Microsoft will find that “creating such a lifestyle device is going to be a battle,” he says. “It’s going to be hard to create the same level of cachet that Apple has with the iPod.”
The Zune player, first in a series of Zune-branded devices, will combine a hard drive WMA and MP3 player with wi-fi and is expected to go on sale in November. According to reports (click the link above) the software giant is prepared to take a hit on hardware production in the hope of coining revenue from the sale of music downloads.
Microsoft’s successful infiltration of the games console space has clearly given it the confidence to take on Apple, so perhaps it’s no surprise that Microsoft entertainment president Robbie Bach has enlisted the help of J Allard, vice president of the Xbox team, to help direct the project.

The xbox 360 will be Microsoft’s ticket to success with the Zune product line.
