Sony announces two Freeview DVD recorders

Sony is introducing two new Freeview tuner HDD/DVD recorders. The RDR-HXD560 (pictured above) has an 80GB hard drive able to record 106 hours of TV, while the RDR-HXD860 (pictured below) has a 160GB drive capable of storing 249 hours.
Both models are DVD+/-R compatible and can record and playback DVD+ R double layer discs with a maximum 8.5GB capacity. The recorders are also able to read MP3 and JPEG files as well as DVD-Ram discs; they are also DivX compatible. The larger drive RDR-HXD860 boasts an HDMI port, and can upscale DVD and recordings to 720p and 1080i.
For maximum picture quality both models have an HQ+ 15mbps recording mode to the HDD. The RDR-HXD560, which will sell for 350 UK pounds, is available this month while the RDR-HXD860, 400 UK pounds, debuts in September.
