Second generation HD DVD deck sooner rather than later

August 16th, 2006 · No Comments

Rumours continue to persist that Toshiba will introduce its second generation player as early as October.
Toshiba’s US VP of marketing Jodi Sally has refused to entertain the speculation, claiming the company “had not yet announced any new models”, and was continuing to ship significant quantities of both the HD-A1 and HD-XA1. However the prospect of a new player remain high. Toshiba will be anxious to get its first 1080p machine into stores in order to negate ‘s 1080p marketing advantage. The company’s first high-def recorder, the RD-A1 available only in Japan, already offers native 1080p playback and all the HD DVD titles released to date have been mastered in 1080p.
