Consumers warm to burnable movie downloads

A massive 84 percent of consumers have no interest buying a digital download if it comes with extensive DRM (digital rights management) and a no-burn restriction, according to a poll of consumers by Warner Home Video. However interest rises to 60 percent when the ability to burn to DVD is included in the package.
Perhaps this explains the sudden shift to download-to-burn in the nascent digital download market?
According to industry speakers at the 2006 Entertainment Media Expo, a burn your own option is essential if the download market is to take off.
Curt Marvis, boss of CinemaNow says that business has grown five-fold since ‘burnability’ was added to the service.
Sony, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Lionsgate, MGM  and Universal all now offer burnable content via the site.
According to Warner’s Jim Wuthrich, downloaders still have desire to own physical copies of movies, almost as an insurance policy.
