75 movies announced for Japanese Blu-ray rollout

August 30th, 2006 · No Comments

Even as the disc association announces its launch plans for Blu-ray in Europe this week, the Japanese debut is also gathering steam, with the announcement that 75 movies will be available by the end of year.
Speaking at a press conference to confirm the software roll-out (but significantly not the availability of a dedicated Sony player) Sony’s Senior Vice President Kiyoshi Nishitani declared: “High-definition TV is becoming popular and this means consumer’s desire to enjoy even finer visual products is getting stronger every day.”
First wave titles will include The Da Vinci Code, (from Sony Pictures) and Chicken Little ( Buena Vista); they will share the same BD region code as the US.
The rival camp, which already has titles available, retailiated with an announcement of 40 more high profile releases, including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
