Sharp confirms eighth generation 1080p LCD TVs

September 3rd, 2006 · No Comments

Sharp has confirmed that its Full HD 1080p 42-, 46-, and 52-inch s, which represent the first output from its eighth generation fabrication plant in Kameyama, will be released worldwide this autumn.
In addition to 1920 x 1080 resolution, all boast a 2000:1 contrast ratio and 4ms response time. Sharp’s new Kameyama facility cuts large screen panels from 2160 x 2460-mm glass substrates, which allows the production of eight 46-inch panels or six 52-inch panels from a single substrate.
The company says it has the capacity to produce 15,000 such substrates a month. This will increase to 90,000 per month by mid-2008, translating to 720,000 46-inch panels a month. To meet growing demand in Europe, the company will begin assembling semi-finished LCD TV modules at its new plant in Poland next January.
