The delays to the PlayStation 3 will not affect the introduction of movie software on Blu-ray disc from Fox and Sony. So vows Benjamin Feingold, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment president of digital distribution and acquisitions. A prolific advocate of the format, Feingold maintains that even with its staggered rollout, the PS3 will offer a player population that is a “significant multiple versus anything HD DVD or standard Blu-ray will have.”
The PS3 has reportedly been delayed because of a short of blue laser diodes. However, rival consumer electronic brands claim not to be affected by any such shortage. Pioneer’s senior VP Andy Parsons maintains player manufacturers are unlikely to be affected as they are making far less units than Sony’s PS3.
