Xbox 360 and HD DVD drive to output 1080p

September 20th, 2006 · No Comments

Microsoft has used the Tokyo games Show to confirm that both its drive for the and the console itself will receive a firmware update which will enable them to output 1080p.
The drive will launch in Japan on 17 November, priced at around 19,800 yen. It ships with a Universal Media Remote.
The Japanese market has proved a difficult nut for the company to crack, but with an announcement of over 110 titles by Christmas and a slew of new titles designed to excite Japanese gamers, including Blue Dragon, Dead or Alive:Xtreme 2 and the RPG Infinite Undiscovery, it hopes to break down resistance.
“The key to winning the hearts and minds of the Japanese market is great games, and this great lineup demonstrates that Xbox 360 has those games in spades,” said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “Our lineup of role-playing games from the acknowledged masters of the genre is proof positive that there has never been a better time for Japanese gamers to jump in and pick up an Xbox 360 system.”
