Philips will debut a new line of wearable electronics at a fashion show this week. Featuring the work of German designer Anke Loh, the screens-you-can-wear collection will showcase frocks and nightwear studded with multi-coloured lights, and takes place in Chicago on September 22nd at a special event in the glass-encased lobby of 1 North Wacker Drive.
The photonic textile, which has been dubbed Lumalive by Philips, has never been seen at a fashion show before and features scores of LEDs (light emitting diodes) plus batteries, which can be programmed to create patterns, images or even animations.
The fabric can also be used to transform seating, curtains and other common household objects. “You hardly notice you’re wearing it unless it’s switched on. It’s like a second skin,” says Bas Zeper, Philips’ managing director of photonic textiles. Click here to view Philips Lumalive demo video on YouTube.
