Wii to use Pro-Logic 2 for surround FX

In keeping with its less than cutting-edge image, Dolby has confirmed that games for Nintendo’s upcoming games console will use tried and tested Pro Logic II encoding to provide a surround sound experience.
“The Wii console will break down the walls that separate gamers from everyone else, ” says Koji Kondo, Manager of Nintendo’s sound group. “Because Wii supports Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound technology, we think everyone can have a great audio experience.”
John Griffin, the marketing mirector of Dolby’s games division adds, “Pro Logic II ensures that the Wii can offer rich, immersive surround sound, which is essential to a great gaming experience. We’re looking forward to hearing how great Nintendo’s games sound at launch.”
