The Sharper Image loses its edge

The brand has long been the last refuge of high-tech in American malls, and a lure for visiting British AV nuts, but The Sharper Image chain has recently lost a lot of its cutting edge cool.
The brand has been hemorrhaging business and year on year losses before income tax benefits for the past quarter are expected to top 20 million US dollars.
Now chairman and CEO Richard Thalheimer has stepped down. He has been succeeded by Jerry Levin.
In the past, the shop sold a range of original tech products designed by its in-house team, but this has recently given way to more widely available items, including products commonly sold via infomercials.
“Sharper Image has a great brand name and strong customer base. Our immediate priority is to develop and implement a plan of action that takes full advantage of these fundamental strengths and addresses the operating issues facing the company,” said Levin in a statement.
