Hitachi to open flatpanel TV plant in Europe

Hitachi has confirmed that it will invest in a manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic to meet Europe’s growing demand for flatpanel TVs (both and ).
A new company, Hitachi Home Electronics (Czech)s.r.o., will establish the plant in the Triangle Industrial Zone, which is approximately 80 km northwest of Prague in the Usti region of the Czech Republic. Initial production is expected to begin summer 2007.
The new company will assemble flat-panel TVs and produce plasma panel modules. The Hitachi plant will be located next to the LCD module plant of IPS Alpha Technology Europe, a joint venture company between Hitachi, Matsushita (Panasonic) and Toshiba.
The Japanese giant says it will also establish a design and R and D division on the site to service European requirements. 
Hitachi predicts that 20 million flatscreen TVs will be sold throughout Europe in 2008. The brand says that setting up a manufacturing plant in Europe “will allow the company to achieve reduced production costs through optimised supply chain management, logistical efficiencies and a stable and consistent supply of product for the European marketplace for more effective customer acquisition.”
