Universal Studios has made The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, available as a digital download, day and date with movie’s DVD and HD DVD release, through US Video On Demand Pioneer CinemaNow.
Not only can the download be viewed on a PC, but users can also burn the entire film, menus and standard DVD bonus features to a blank DVD disc for ten dollars, for playback on any DVD.
The title is also being used to introduce a raft of advanced interactive features in its HD DVD incarnation. Viewers will be able to watch commentaries via picture-in-picture and access storyboards, get tech specs, use a GPS map, view production photographs and play a game using the HD DVD remote. The HD DVD release will also be the first Universal title to allow viewers to bookmark individual scenes during the film and fast-forward and rewind to other scenes while the movie is playing.
