Sony has confirmed that it will release the Adam Sandler comedy Click (pictured) as its first 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray movie release, on October 10. Interest in the title will be high. Until now, limitations in capacity have prevented BD titles from offering supplemental material and advanced interactivity. Extras promised include a PIP commentary, four deleted scenes and seven featurettes.
Click will be followed in the US by Black Hawk Down (out on November 14), which will offer a ‘Blu-Wizard’ playlist feature, audio commentary with the key creatives plus six featurettes, and the Will Ferrell comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (out December 12). Extras here will include nine HD deleted and extended scenes, audio commentary, bonus race footage, a blooper reel, plus interviews and features.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment president David Bishop said that “We’re proud to be the first studio to deliver a 50GB Blu-ray Disc to the marketplace.” Click and Black Hawk Down will be listed at 38.95 dollars.
Fellow BD supporter Fox has already announced a 50GB release for Kingdom of Heaven on November 14. The title will be the first to feature BD Java interactivity. Meanwhile, Lionsgate says it will issue The Descent in 50GB format for December. Miguel Casillas, VP of DVD production for Lionsgate, says his release will include “everything and the kitchen sink.”
