Toshiba has finally revealed its 55-inch SED (surface-conduction electron-emitter display) prototypes (pictured above) at the Japanese Ceatec tech expo. The screen, which has taken some time to perfect, wowed crowds with its razor sharp images and deep blacks. SED technology is being touted by Toshiba and co-developer Canon as a high-end alternative to plasma and LCD TV.
The first SED screens will be released onto the Japanese market in 2007. Sales will begin in the US in 2008. There are currently no plans to introduce SED into Europe.
