Hitachi will introduce the world’s first Blu-ray camcorder next year. Confusingly, the Japanese giant has also hinted that it will support the AVCHD format. US product manager Jeff Fochtman says “We haven’t ruled ourselves out of any format, we plan to support both.”
The AVCHD format, devised by Sony and Panasonic, was designed to make HD recording affordable in a small form factor. Sony has confirmed that DVD media recorded with AVCHD files can be played back in a PlayStation 3.
