LG knocks Panasonic off top of plasma sales chart

The TV market bloomed again during the third quarter. PDP shipments shipments increased 17 percent sequentially and 47 percent year-to-year, according to new data from market research outfit DisplaySearch.
A record-breaking 2.8 million units were shipped and revenues topped two billion dollars first time. However,the underlying trend reveals that growth is slowing. Previous third-quarter figures revealed much higher levels of growth. DisplaySearch believes that fourth quarter figures will continue to increase, but numbers will be less explosive than previous figures. Increasing competition from is largely to blame. LG is the biggest mover in the PDP market, edging ahead of Matsushita (parent of Panasonic), with a 27 percent increase in shipments. The company sold 910,000 PDPs in the third quarter, and had the largest market share with 33 percent. Panasonic parent Matsushita sold 850,000 units, giving it a 30 percent market share. Samsung took third place, with 650,000 panels sold.
