Four million Wii consoles stockpiled for launch

November 7th, 2006 · No Comments

Nintendo says it has stockpiled four million game consoles in preparation for the consoles worldwide launch. The majority of these will be pushed into North America, but the company is now warning that demand looks likely to outstrip supply.
“The level of demand we’re seeing goes beyond the ordinary,” proclaims Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo America. The company says that it has factories working to produce the console around the clock.
While some might same that the Wii is little more than a reinvented Gamecube with a novel new controller, Yasuhiro Minagawa, Nintendo’s Japanese PR boss argues that the company is not in the market of competing with either the or Xbox 360. “We have no intention to compete with anybody. We want the Wii to be loved by everyone in the household.”
