Japanese HD DVD lauch goes ahead despite UK delays

Despite announcing delays to the UK introduction of , Toshiba will go ahead and launch its second generation players into Japanese stores from late December. The HD-XF2 and HD-XA2 decks are compatible with Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD sound formats, as well as linear PCM 5.1ch audio.
In addition to high definition disc replay, both players upconvert standard definition DVD to 1080i or 720p (or 1080p for HD-XA2). The high-end XA2 will also be the first HD DVD deck to offer an HDMI v1.3 output, which supports Deep Color technology, an optional standard that improves representation of colour tones and finer gradations. The player incorporates a high-performance 297MHz/12bit video DAC with 4x oversampling of 74.25MHz as standard.
