Sony believes that it has found a way to deliver audio via the human body, direct to headphones, without the need for Bluetooth or other wireless technologies. The company has applied to patent what it describes as a ‘human body communication system and communication device.’
The system involves transmitting 48 kilobytes of data per second through a wearer’s frame, to special earphones which convert the signals back into stereo audio. Helpfully, the burst of radio data will not cause a sensation of tingling, says the company in its patent application.
It says that the big bonus is that the system is not prone to any interference, unlike Bluetooth.
