Could UK PS3 price reduction be on the cards

January 30th, 2007 · No Comments

UK gamers could be the first to see a price reduction on the PlayStation3. While SCE says that there will be no movement on price points worldwide during 2007, the high relative cost of the 60GB version in Europe allows for some movement by Sony, should it need to fire-up retail interest after the early adopter rush.
The UK price point of 425 pounds (approx 800 dollars) makes our PS3 the most expensive in the world, effectively twice that of an equivalent model in Japan (approx 400 dollars), and far closer to the actual manufacturing costs.  In its latest financials, Sony’s games unit declared a quarterly loss of 54.2 billion yen.
