The star turn in Sony’s third quarter financials is clearly its consumer electronics division, and in particular the BRAVIA LCD TV line and Cybershot digital camera range. Sony’s Electronics division reported an increase in sales of 16.9 per cent, with an operating profit of 177.4 billion yen. However, development and launch costs associated with the PlayStation 3, along with limp sales of the PSP, dragged down the figures from its games division, which posted a 54.2 billion yen loss. Sony declared a net profit 159.9 billion yen, down 5.3 per cent year on year. The megacorp remains bullish though, raising its annual profit forecast.
