Energy Savings Trust worried about our love of gadgets

February 5th, 2007 · No Comments

According to research sponsored by the Energy Saving Trust, UK consumers will buy a staggering 30 million electrical items over the next six months. And the spending spree is expected to continue. As a consequence, the consumer electronics market will boom by a third between 2001 and 2009. All this has the EST worried.
Energy consumption for electronics alone has already risen by 47 per cent over the last decade. Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust, warns “Some electrical items will be replacements but when you look at the trend it is clear that householders are increasingly adding new electrical gadgets to their homes. And our growing passion for gadgets is having a significant impact on our energy bills, and on the environment.”
